South Jakarta Holds Lenong Betawi Festival 2019 at Setu Babakan PBB

Today, South Jakarta Tourism and Culture Sub-department (Sudinparbud) holds Lenong Betawi Festival 2019 at Setu Babakan Betawi Cultural Village (PBB), Jagakarsa. This festival is held to preserve Betawi traditional theater, Lenong Betawi, in modern age.

We want to introduce Lenong Betawi to the audience, especially young generations

There are 12 Lenong communities in South Jakarta participate in this event. They are competing and showing their skills to be the winner in this event. The winner will represent South Jakarta to compete with Lenong communities in other regions at provincial and national level.

"We want to introduce Lenong Betawi to the audience, especially young generations. We also hope this event to support the existence of Lenong Betawi and its communities," explained Imron, South Jakarta Sudinparbud Head, Saturday (3/23).

Nasrul, an actor from Lenong Sinar Remaja community who also participates in this festival hopes that government can hold similar event annually in order to preserve this one of Betawi cultural arts.
